I am Joonho.
I'm an assistant professor in the philosophy department at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
My area of specialization is ancient Chinese philosophy. My particular interest includes philosophical issues surrounding moral motivation in Mencius 孟子.
I have completed my Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Utah My dissertation also focused on Mencius’ moral psychology, but examines how various types of irrationality, such as self-deception and temptation, shape proper moral motivation in his view. I was born in Seoul, South Korea.
I've completed my B.A. and M.A. in philosophy at Yonsei University.
While pursuing my MA, I became fascinated by how some contemporary philosophers have used a comparative approach to Asian and Western philosophy in tackling philosophical issues. Adopting that methodology, I wrote a thesis about Mencius’ ideas about weakness of will. I took a language training program in Taedong Classic Research Institute while pursuing my M.A. in order to enhance my fluency in Classical Chinese. |
